Edward Byers is a research scholar in the Energy, Climate and Environment (ECE) Program (Integrated Assessment and Climate Change research group), with research interests in infrastructure systems, water and climate change risks, the water-energy nexus, development economics and vulnerability.

He has been contributing author to various chapters of the 2018 IPCC Special Report on 1.5C, 2019 IPCC Special Report on Climate Change on Land and the 2022 IPCC WGIII 6th Assessment Report: Mitigation of Climate Change.
