Mengfang Chen is currently a professor with Nanjing Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and deputy director of National Engineering Laboratory of Site Remediation Technologies of China. He previously held positions of technical director and senior consultant with world leading engineering and consultancy companies including Jacobs Engineering Group, Royal HaskoningDHV, Capita Group and Environmental Resource Management (ERM) Ltd. Prof. Chen was the founding chair and advisor of Soil Remediation Committee of Soil Sciences Society of China and acted as an International Project Advisor for Euro-FP7 Project (NANOREM) for the application of nano-iron in soil and groundwater remediation, and technical advisor for the regeneration of 2012 London Olympic Parks.

Prof. Chen has over thirty years’ experience working in contaminated land research and consultancy and has considerable experience in soil and groundwater investigation, quantitative risk assessment for heavy metals, organics and radionuclides, reagents based groundwater remediation technologies such as in situ chemical reduction (ISCR) and oxidation (ISCO), nanoremediation, permeable reactive barrier (PRB), and enhanced bioremediation, and ecological restoration of acid mine drainage from abandoned mines in UK and China. 

Mengfang assisted in developing Contaminated Land Exposure Assessment (CLEA) model for the Environment Agency in England and Wales, and has developed Human and Environmental Risk Assessment (HERA) software that has been widely accepted in Chinese brownfield remediation sector since 2012. He wrote over 200 technical and consultant reports for industrial, private and governmental clients and authored over 80 peer-reviewed international journal papers and 6 books.
