ETH Zurich Switzerland

My name is Xiaole Zhang. I am currently a lecturer at the Institute of Environmental Engineering, ETH Zurich, Switzerland. My research focuses on the environmental, health, and safety problems induced by hazardous pollutants, specifically radioactive gas/particles, bioaerosols, and nanoparticles. I have systematically investigated the emission, atmospheric transport, exposure, and health effects of the released hazardous pollutants.

The main research results have been published as the first author and the corresponding author in the high-quality international journals, including Nature Communications, Environmental Science & Technology, Clinical Infectious Diseases, and Journal of Hazardous Materials. One paper has become Essential Science Indicators (ESI) highly cited publication, in the top 1% based on the number of citations. The developed method for reconstruction of the accidental emission of radioactive material has been adopted by the decision support system for off-site nuclear emergency management (RODOS) in Europe. The studies on the role of aerosols in SARS-CoV-2 transmission have been reported and referenced by the Swiss National COVID-19 Science Task Force (29/10/2020).
